The business leaders who are backing Donald Trump for the presidency (“Business leaders’ myopic reversal on Trump”, FT View, June 20) are engaging in a Faustian pact that they may regret should he be victorious in November. If Trump is elected, they may get the tax cuts, deregulation and the squeezing of labour unions but they will also open the door to crony capitalism and a president who has proved himself to be very vindictive. They will also get a degradation of the rule of law. Capitalism cannot function if the rule of law ultimately resides in the hands of an unpredictable and unprincipled narcissistic and egotistical convicted felon who cannot distinguish fact from fiction.
