Ten years ago the Dixie Chicks sparked death threats when they denounced George W Bush for the Iraq war. The country-pop trio stood their ground but the backlash knocked them off track: their last album was in 2006.
During the hiatus sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire have formed a spin-off duo, Court Yard Hounds. Amelita is their second album together, a polished but warm exercise in roots-rock, best exemplified by the rollicking banjos and fiddles of “Phoebe”.
