I'm here at Davos. And if there was a hashtag for this year, it would be A.I. Everybody's talking about big data, robotics. How is society going to cope with all this change? How are businesses going to cope with a disruption to their models? There is a dark side that a lot of the tech companies are starting to grapple with that has to do with privacy, autonomy. As individuals, how are we going to navigate regulation and growth?
A very interesting session I was in looking at disruption in the insurance business, where personalised sensors in your cars, in your kitchen's are going to mean that insurance companies can write individual policies just for you. That's going to create risk and reward. It may also increase bifurcation. There could be groups of people that won't be insurable anymore.
These are just one of the challenges I'm hearing about. I've heard a robotics professor talk about a data bill of rights, people being able to have more equality with the companies that are using their data and the metadata in ways that they may not know. A lot of people are saying that the US is going to have to move more towards what Europe is doing in terms of data privacy if we're going to bridge the major gaps of not only information equality, but actual wealth equality.
