GLORIA GUEVARA: Thank you for having me, and good afternoon. Travel and tourism contributes to 10% of the world GDP, employs 330 million people around the world. That's one out of 10.
And when we look at every crisis, every single one impacts travel and tourism. But we have never seen something of this nature or of this experience. The worst that we had before was 2008. And this is five times probably that.
But before the vaccine, we need to be able to travel. And we believe we can travel if we implement the right protocols that are standard throughout the world, that we look at the seamless experience that it took us 20 years to get here, and just add the component of health and testing/tracing some countries are doing.
And then we work in a coordinated approach, not in silos. We learn from each other that unfortunately that is not happening. And that's why you see some initiatives done in silos that are impacting this sector, right?
But for you, in order to bring back your confidence to travel again, you need to see the same. If you're going to wear a mask on the flight, it needs to be in all the flights, correct? If you're going to need to do some things to the hotels, it has to be in all the hotels, and not create uncertainty because that uncertainty is going to complicate a recovery.
