Pascal Morand to step down as dean of ESCP Europe

Pascal Morand is to step down as the dean of ESCP Europe, the business school with five campuses in France, UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. He has been dean there for six years.
Prof Morand, an economist by training, is also a leading expert on the French fashion industry and is a former director general of the Institut Français de la Mode. He also writes extensively on the links between economics and culture: his latest book, Les Religions et le Luxe, was published earlier this year.
Prof Morand is one of a handful of French business schools deans to step down in the past year. Phillipe Courtier, a former dean of one of France’s top engineering schools, became dean of EM Lyon on July 1, for example, following the departure of entrepreneurship specialist Patrick Molle. And also on July 1 in neighbouring Grenoble, Loïck Roche was promoted to dean at Grenoble Ecole de Management, to replace Thierry Grange, who had been dean there since 2002.
At ESCP Prof Morand was closely involved in research on globalisation conducted for IMF boss Christine Lagarde when she was France’s Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment and Minister of Foreign Trade. He now says he wants to return to research and teaching and from the autumn will be involved in innovation policy to reindustrialise France and Europe.
