Scott C Beardsley

The Darden school at the University of Virginia has appointed McKinsey director Scott Beardsley as its next dean. Mr Beardsley, who was born in Maine and holds citizenship of both the US and France, has spent most of his 26 years with the management consultancy in its Brussels office.

Mr Beardsley, who will join Darden on August 1, is no stranger to business school and management education. He holds an MBA from MIT Sloan - he was editor and marketing manager of the MIT Sloan Management Review for a time. He is also expected to receive an executive doctorate in higher education management in May from the University of Pennsylvania. At McKinsey, he is in charge of learning and leadership development for the consultancy.

Mr Beardsley said he is a great believer in Darden’s values and its Jeffersonian commitment to excellence. “I look forward to working with the school’s outstanding faculty, staff, students and alumni to shape a vision for the future and to ensure that the world is keenly aware of Darden’s exceptional …. offerings, which are personalised for each learner and delivered by a faculty second to none.”

Mr Beardsley will replace Robert Bruner, arguably Darden’s most successful dean, who announced in 2014 that he would step down after 10 years in the job.
